Why We Love It:
Ivory Silk Japanese Lilacs are grown as either single-stem accent trees or in multi-stemmed form.  They are adorned with showy plumes of fragrant creamy white flowers in early summer that rise above their dark green foliage. After all the crabapples, magnolias and other spring flowering trees have finished, it’s time for the tree lilacs to put on a show! Ivory Silk has attractive reddish-brown peeling bark on younger branches that gradually mature to steel-gray. It has a dense, upright habit of growth that works well to create shade or a summer privacy screen. After the flowers have finished, the seed heads are small and dry – they do not drop any messy fruit residue. 

Ivory Silk Japanese Lilac is also a nice choice if you are looking to attract hummingbirds, butterflies and other pollinators to your yard.

Know Before You Plant:
Ivory Silk Japanese Lilac is relatively low maintenance, but if you wish to prune, only do so after it flowers to avoid removing any of the current season’s flower buds. 

Where It Thrives:
Ivory Silk Japanese Lilac prefers full sun, but will tolerate light shade. It will produce the best blooms in full sun. It is quite tolerant of urban conditions and is suitable for planting near streets and driveways.

The tree form can be used in the landscape along roadsides, in lawns as a specimen, or near decks/patios. The shrub form is effective as a border or used in small groups as a screen along property lines.
