Why We Love It:
Gold Tide Forsythia is a dense and compact deciduous shrub that is bathed in stunning lemon-yellow flowers along its branches in early spring. Forsythia are one of the first shrubs to bloom and their yellow flowers are a true sign that spring has arrived! Forsythia flower before their light green foliage emerges, which leaves their branches densely covered in the bell-shaped golden flowers and it is quite a beautiful sight.
Gold Tide will reach a height of 2 feet and spread to around 4 feet once fully mature. This compact form is perfect for border edges or as a specimen in a foundation planting. This shrub is juglone (black walnut) tolerant and Southeastern Wisconsin deer tend to leave it alone.
Know Before You Plant:
While Forsythia are hardy to our Southeastern Wisconsin winters, the flower buds are sometimes damaged by cold winter temperatures and late freezes that can happen in early spring. If this happens, you may lose some or all of the flowers for that season.
Where It Thrives:
Gold Tide Forsythia prefers full sun, but can tolerate some partial shade. You will see the best flower production if planted in full sun. They will do well in your average garden soil, as long as it is well-draining. Forsythia can be planted in groups or masses on banks, slopes or as a border. Great for foundation plantings or cottage gardens.
