Tiger Eyes® Sumac (Rhus typhina ‘Bailtiger’)

A Tree that Shines in all Seasons

  • Hardiness Range: 3-8
  • Height: 6 feet
  • Spread: 6 feet
  • Exposure: Full to Part Sun
  • Fall Color: Yellow/Orange

Why We Love It:
Tiger Eyes® Sumac is an exciting plant featuring finely cut tropical-looking foliage which emerges chartreuse turning bright gold all season. In the fall it becomes a great garden color accent with fabulous yellow, orange and scarlet tiered leaves. It lends an extremely fine and delicate texture to the landscape composition which can make it a great accent feature on this basis alone.

Know Before You Plant:
Tiger Eyes® Sumac is a multi-stemmed deciduous shrub with a stunning habit of growth which features almost oriental horizontally-tiered branches. This shrub will require occasional maintenance and upkeep, and is best pruned in late winter once the threat of extreme cold has passed.

Where It Thrives:
It tends to fill out right to the ground and therefore doesn’t necessarily require facer plants in front, and is suitable for planting under power lines. This shrub does best in full sun to partial shade. It does best in average to evenly moist conditions, but will not tolerate standing water. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments.
