Autumn Sun Coneflower (Rudbeckia laciniata ‘Herbstsonne’)

One of Our Favorite Perennials for Mid-Summer/Fall Blooms

  • Hardiness Range: 5 to 9
  • Height: 4-7 ft.
  • Spread: 2-3 ft.
  • Exposure: Full Sun
  • Flower Color: Bright Golden Yellow

Why We Love It:

Autumn Sun Coneflower is an upright, tall (reaching 4 – 7 feet) and clump-forming perennial. It features large daisy-like flowers that have an elongated bright green center cone with drooping golden yellow petals. This coneflower has long summer blooms that last into the fall – even till early October! This plant adds height and texture to your landscape with its toothed, bright green leaves. Autumn Sun Coneflower will provide seasonal interest well into the fall and winter. Seed loving birds (particularly goldfinches, blue jays and cardinals) will be attracted to the seedheads if left throughout the winter.

Know Before You Plant:

This perennial attracts butterflies and other pollinators.  Our local deer generally ignore this variety!  If we get strong winds and rain during prime bloom season, this tall plant can lean or topple, so we find it best to place it toward the middle or back of the planting bed.

Where It Thrives:

Plant in masses or grouped in mixed perennial borders, cutting gardens, cottage gardens and native plantings.
