Why We Love It:
Biokovo Cranesbill is a compact, perennial geranium that blooms heavily in late spring and early summer, and its dark green leaves turn a beautiful dark red in the fall. It is ground-hugging and has a mat-like growth pattern that doesn’t get as leggy as other cranesbill varieties. Biokovo is reliable and blends well with blues and whites in a perennial garden.

Know Before You Plant:
Biokovo Cranesbill is not invasive, but it can spread gently by underground stems. It performs best in full sun or partly shaded areas, and prefers medium moisture in well-drained soil.

You may notice the foliage start to decline after flowering in hot summer climates, like southeastern Wisconsin, but if you lightly shear back the foliage it can revitalize and promote new growth.

Where It Thrives:
Biokovo Cranesbill can be used in many applications throughout the landscape. It does well in rock gardens or used as border fronts. You can plant it in masses for ground cover or plant along edging. You can even use this variety in containers – the mat-like growth creates an excellent spilling effect. If planted in containers, Biokovo will not come back the following year (treat it as an annual in this context).
