Little Spire Russian Sage (Perovskia ‘Little Spire’)

Fetching and Fragrant

  • Hardiness: 5-9
  • Height: 18-24 inches
  • Spread: 12-18 inches
  • Exposure: Full Sun
  • Bloom Color: Lavender

Why We Love It:
Little Spire Russian Sage features delicate spikes of lavender flowers rising above the foliage from early summer to mid fall. Its attractive fragrant narrow leaves emerge silver in spring, turning grayish green in color throughout the season. It is a good choice for attracting butterflies to your yard, but is not particularly attractive to deer who tend to leave it alone. Great for Waukesha!

Know Before You Plant:
Little Spire Russian Sage is an herbaceous perennial with an upright spreading habit of growth. This is a relatively low maintenance plant, and is best cut back to the ground in late winter before active growth resumes. While it is a fine choice for the garden, it is also a good selection for planting in outdoor pots and containers.

Where it Thrives:
This plant should only be grown in full sunlight. It prefers dry to average moisture levels with very well-drained soil, and will often die in standing water. It is considered to be drought-tolerant, and thus makes an ideal choice for a low-water garden. It is highly tolerant of urban pollution and will even thrive in inner city environments like Milwaukee or West Allis.
